While I still have the attention of the Saskatoon people, I would like to bring attention to the city’s only female jockey, Nikki Hein.
It seems she was missed in recent recognition of other local jockeys. We will fix that right now!
Nicole Hein is a professional Thoroughbred Racehorse Jockey from right here in Saskatoon. She got her first professional start at Marquis Downs on May 31, 2019 where she rode six-year-old mare “The Last Deputy” to a fourth-place finish. Since her first start, Nicole has competed in 93 sanctioned career starts between Marquis Downs and Assiniboia Downs. With a 41% win/place/show career record, Nicole means business every time she saddles up.
Not only is Nicole a fierce competitor on the racetrack, she is also a Brand Consultant, where she works as an independent consultant to help local businesses improve their brand recognition through web design, the creation of creative content, and social media marketing. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) from the University of Alberta in German Language and Literature and intends to pursue a Master of Arts degree in the future alongside her riding career.
When Nicole is not physically training in preparation to race, or providing her expertise to her clients, she spends her time advocating for the sport of horse racing in Saskatchewan which she has been a significant contributor and role model for young women interested in entering the industry. She is the administrator of the Horse Racing Saskatchewan website and public Facebook page of the same name, which aims to provide the public with insight into the far-reaching positive impact that horse racing has on the local community and the Saskatchewan economy.
Be proud of all of the great talent that Saskatchewan cultivates.
Thank you, Nikki!
